Diesel options are available on the Grand i10 starting from the Sportz variant. It gets a 1.2L Diesel engine that makes 74HP and 190nm torque. It is powered by a 5-Speed manual, and also gets the option of an AMT gearbox for easier city drives. The i10 has a claimed mileage of 25 KMPL, which is pretty amazing considering the torque on offer!
Tata Altroz (Rs. 7.42 Lakhs, 23KMPL)
The most inexpensive car on this list of cheapest diesel hatchbacks, the Tata Altroz is an amazing option. The only thing that sets this one behind is the fact that there’s no automatic option available. It is also the safest car on this list of cheapest diesel hatchbacks (rated 5-Star by GNCAP). The Altroz’s 1.5L Diesel engine makes 89HP and 200nm, making it excellent both on the highways and the city roads!
Hyundai i20 (Rs. 8.34 Lakhs, 25KMPL)
The most powerful car on this list of cheapest diesel hatchbacks! The Hyundai i20 gets a 1.5L Diesel engine that makes 99HP and 240nm torque! That’s a massive amount of torque for a car of this size. To put things into perspective, the 1.4L Turbo petrol on the Creta makes 242nm torque. So you can imagine what a pocket rocket this one must be!
So here was a list of the cheapest diesel cars in India. With Maruti Suzuki pulling the plug on all diesel engines, the list has become much smaller than what it could have been. Also, many cars now come with factory-fitted CNG kits, which are much more efficient and more eco-friendly than a diesel motor. This also contributes to this list is as short as it is.
