  1. What makes an EV better?

There are many reasons why one would choose an EV over a normal car. The most important is cost. EVs are dirt cheap to maintain and sustain. It costs less than Re.1/KM to drive an electric vehicle in India. There’s hardly any maintenance, just the regular wear and tear parts like tires, brakes, etc. No engines oils, transmission failures, coolant spills, nothing. Secondly, electric vehicles have stellar performance, with no turbo lags at all. An electric motor is capable of delivering 100% torque throughout the rev range. Most importantly, EVs are excellent for the environment. With zero emissions and negligible noise, they surely make it easy for us to breathe!

  1. How are EVs doing in the market?

At present, roughly 1-2% of the market in India is captured by EVs. Now, this number looks rather small, but it is still quite significant. What’s more significant is the growth that this number has seen. Electric cars have seen a growth of 234% in 2021, and two-wheelers have seen a growth of 504% in 2021 (as compared to 2020). These numbers surely suggest that people are starting to realize the benefits of owning an electric vehicle in India, especially with the ever-rising fuel prices.

  1. What are some good EVs in the market?

If you’re looking to buy a car, then our very own brand Tata has 2 models, the Tigor EV and the Nexon EV. If you’re looking for something a bit on the pricier side, the MG ZS-ev is also an excellent choice. There are quite a few options when it comes to two-wheelers. Ather, Revolt, Bajaj and the upcoming OLA Scooters are the best in the market.

We do believe that 2022 can be the year for Electric Vehicles in India. Recently, India’s Road Transport and Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari also mentioned that the prices of electric vehicles will come down to the lines of normal ICE cars, as the demand and supply increase in the future.
