Chinese Owned Haima Automobiles Is Entering India

Haima Automobile is part of Chinese state-owned First Automobile Works (FAW Group) which is tying up with India-based Bird Group for officially entering the Indian automotive market. Haima Automobiles is scheduled to announce its entry at the 2020 Auto Expo.

GoMechanic in October 2019 reported the entry of another China-based automobile company; Great Wall Motors who is also planning to foray into the Indian automobile market by 2021-22.

As of now, Haima Automobiles is currently on the table in talks with the central and state government channelizing its entry into the Indian market. Haima officials are also looking for OEM parts manufacturers across India.

A Haima executive while speaking to Autocar India said: “It is certain that Haima Automobile Group, a three-decade-old pioneer passenger car manufacturer from China, is all set to make its foray into the Indian automotive sector.”

For its India operations, Haima Automobiles has partnered with the Bird Electric; a part of the Bird Group. in fact another subsidiary of the Bird Group; Bird Automotive is the official dealer for BMW and Mini car in India.

Back in China, Haima Automobiles have a decent portfolio of all-electric cars from the Aishang 360 (hatchback), E3 (sedan), E5 (SUV) and E7 (MPV).

Haima recently unveiled its Haima 8S midsize SUV, sports the dimensions and slots of that of the Kia Seltos and MG Hector. The Haima 8S is powered by a 1.6-litre T-GDI engine producing 193 hp and 293 nm of torque, and it’s mated to a 6-speed automatic gearbox, giving the 8S a claimed 0-100kph time of under 8sec.

Haima Automobiles History

Haima Automobiles was founded in 1988; based out of Hainan province in China. Haima during its early days sold rebadged Mazda cars. The word Haiman is a combination of Hainan province and the Japanese carmaker Mazda. The car company was eventually taken over by the First Automobile Works a.k.a the FAW Group.
