Hyundai Motors India Limited has been either launching or updating its vehicle inventory to woo the Indian masses. And it wouldn’t be an understatement to say that HMIL is definitely succeeding. But what’s even more interesting is Hyundai’s new Micro-SUV; codenamed “AX1”. Spotted testing a few times now, the AX1 has tickled our nerves of excitement. So let’s have a look at what all we know so far about the upcoming Hyundai AX1.
The Looks
As per reports, the AX1 will be a sub-four meter entry and will be aggressively priced, availing all the tax benefits the Indian tax regime offers. Coming to the looks, the test mule certainly evolving, and as per the latest images, only a few details can be made out. There is an upright front fascia comprising of a split-headlamp cluster with LED DRLs. The radiator grille can also be seen with a large opening. Despite being a compact vehicle, the AX1 seems to have a well-proportioned exterior stance with SUV like ground clearance. Other evident details are rectangular wheel arches, rectangular turn indicators, a little raked front windshield, wraparound LED tail lamps etc.
The Interiors
The heavily camouflaged test mule doesn’t leave a lot of spaces for anyone to have a good peep-in. But with that said, we do expect the AX1 to come with features like 8-inch touch infotainment with Apple Car Play and Android Auto. We also expect the vehicle to support auto-climate control, electronic ORVMs, rear AC vents, semi-digital instrument cluster and much more.
The Powertrain and Transmission
Even though there is very little about the powertrain out there, we believe that markets such as that of India could very well use the 1.2 litre NA petrol unit that currently do rounds on the i20. The engine returns 83 PS of power with 115 Nm of torque. Transmission wise, we expect the AX1 to come mated with a 5-speed manual gearbox as standard, with an optional 5-speed automatic transmission for convenience. But all these are mere speculations until more concrete details come up.
Expected Launch and Price
The AX1 is expected to launch in the initial quarters of 2022 and can lock horns with the likes of Maruti Suzuki S Presso, Ignis, Mahindra’s upcoming XUV100, and the upcoming Tata HBX.
