Well if you have been waiting for the upcoming Second-gen Mahindra Thar then your wait is about to come to an end soon. According to recent media reports, Mahindra has now confirmed that they are planning to launch the Next-gen Mahindra Thar in early September or October.
This news was announced by none other the Managing Director, Mahindra and Mahindra, Pawan Goenka who while announcing the company’s annual financial results, Mr Pawan Goenka confirmed that the all-new 2020 Mahindra Thar will be launched between September-October, 2020.

Initially, the new 2020 Mahindra Thar was expected to debut at the Auto expo 2020 but due to reasons unknown, the brand did not showcase the model. However, after a failed debut the test mule of the next-generation off-roader has been spotted various times being tested on under various conditions. Earlier on Mahindra had also hinted that they could launch the 2020 Thar sometime August but it seems that the plans have changed yet again. So why is Mahindra delaying the launch again and again? Next-Gen Mahindra Thar | Engine Specification
- On the mechanical front, the current-gen Thar which only comes with a diesel engine is expected to get an all-new 2.0-litre BS6 petrol unit as well capable of generating 187hp with 380Nm of peak torque.
- We can also expect the engine to come paired with a standard 6-speed manual gearbox and a 4WD drivetrain.

- The new off-roader will be bigger and bolder than the older version. The upcoming SUV will have all the modern elements in terms of features and styling. The spy images reveal that the new SUV will have the trademark seven-slat grille of the automaker, round headlamps, flared wheel arches, new LED tail lamps, a factory-fitted hard-top variant and five-spoke alloy wheels.
- On the inside, the new Mahindra Thar will have a touchscreen infotainment system which will support Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. The SUV also gets multi-info display, remote locking and front power windows. Dual front airbags, ABS with EBD, rear parking sensors, seat-belt reminder, central locking and speed alert will come as standard.

Next-Gen Mahindra Thar | Safety Features
- The all-new second-gen Thar has become much safer compared to the previous-gen as the new safety list on the new Thar will include disc brakes on all four wheels, front airbags, ABS with EBD, parking camera, rear parking sensors, front seatbelt reminder, and a high-speed alert system.
Next-Gen Mahindra Thar | Expected Price & Rivals
- We can expect the all-new second-gen Thar to be price Rs 2 lakh over the current model which is currently priced between Rs 9.59 lakh to Rs 9.99 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi).
- With its launch, the second-gen Thar will actively rival the likes of Force Gurkha which was recently showcased at Auto Expo 2020.
