8 Reasons Why the Tata Harrier is Better than the Hyundai Creta

If you are out in the market looking for a new ride in the SUV lot, then you probably are baffled right now. We get this dilemma of over choice of yours as there are a handful of feisty options spread over a broad price range, all having distinct configurations. There are two, in particular very popular cars in this segment, The all-new 2020 Hyundai Creta and the Tata Harrier which recently got a BS6 update.

The Harrier and the Creta aren’t the most popular comparison since the Harrier is more expensive than the Creta and is also more substantial. However, there are a couple of variants of both the cars which fall close to each other on the grid. Both are 5-seater Mid-size SUVs, both have diesel automatic variants and both come with a host of features.

Keeping some aspects into consideration, the Harrier seems to have an edge over the 2020 Creta. If you are willing to spare a premium to get some of that action, here’s 8 reasons why the Tata Harrier is better than the Hyundai Creta.

Please note: the Harrier only comes with a diesel engine option, so it will only be fair to compare it with the Creta’s diesel powertrain options.

  1. Packs More Power

Tata Harrier with the BS6 update got an all-new 2 Litre, four-cylinder, Kryo-tec engine producing a big-boy figure of 170HP and 350Nm of torque. Compared to Creta’s 1.4 Litre, four-cylinder, turbo-diesel making 113HP and 250Nm of torque, the Harrier’s power plant definitely packs more punch. Both the cars come mated to a 6-speed manual and a 6-speed automatic transmission. Both the car’s transmissions do a great job in putting all that power down to the wheels but as they say, there is no replacement for displacement and hence the Harrier is a stronger contender.

  2. Pedigree of LandRover’s OmegaArc Platform

Under the skin, Tata’s got more than just a skeleton, it is built on a legacy of sheer off-roading experience. The Harrier is built on the OmegaArc (Optimal Modular Efficient Global Advanced Architecture) platform which is a re-engineered version of the Jaguar Land Rover’s D8 platform which has cars like the Range Rover Discovery, Range Rover Evoque and Jaguar E Pace based on it.

Hot Topic! What actually went wrong with the Tata Nano?

The Harrier isn’t a proper off-roader, but with such underpinnings, it is definitely a better option than the Hyundai Creta for some leisure time on rough trails.

  3. Better Ride Comfort

Having such established underpinnings also bodes well for the Harrier in providing seamless ride experience.

Tata Harrier’s Suspension Setup and slightly bigger wheels than the Creta helps it to absorb vibrations from bad roads and doesn’t let any of it penetrate into the cabin.

Harrier is also a pretty composed vehicle, grips around corners impressively and doesn’t have the conventional body roll you’d expect from an SUV of its size.

  4. Greater Ride Height

One of the primary reasons for buying an SUV is that you want something that could make you stand out, that could make you feel like a more significant person while idling at the traffic signal or to simply cherish the feeling of riding higher than the rest.

The modern-day compact SUVs don’t fulfil such parameters due to their rather humble proportions. However, this is not the case with the Harrier, with its raised bonnet and jacked-up ride height, it will definitely be a comparatively substantial vehicle on the road.

  5. More Ground Clearance

Owning an SUV should have its fair share of perks, one of them is being able to ride over all kinds of obstacles on the road or even off it with ease. For that, a car needs to have proper ground clearance. Tata Harrier’s 205mm ground clearance which is higher than the Creta definitely tips the scale in Harrier’s favour.

  6. More Cabin Space

At 2741mm, The Harrier has a bigger wheelbase than the Creta and is also bigger in length. This translates into having more cabin space especially for the rear passengers which means that the Harrier can also double up as an appropriate choice for the chauffeur-driven class of customers.

What good will buying an SUV be if it doesn’t even look like a full-blooded SUV? Most modern-day compact SUVs are based on the platforms of their hatchback siblings which results in a rather insignificant stance.

Since the Tata Harrier is based on platforms derived from the likes of the Range Rover Discovery, it packs the chunky looks and commanding road presence of a full-blown SUV.

If you are a fan of the “SUV bulk”, Then the Harrier is definitely a preferable choice over the Creta for you.

  8. Tata’s Safety Assurance
