Hatchbacks are undoubtedly the most popular kinds of cars in India. Their compact size makes them very easy to move around in Indian traffic conditions. They also offer excellent value for money, decent enough features, and phenomenal fuel efficiency figures! Today, let’s take a look at the best-selling hatchbacks in India in October 2021.
-
Maruti Suzuki Alto (17,389 Units)
The Alto is probably the second most famous Maruti Suzuki car after the Maruti 800. With the Alto, Maruti gave every middle-class Indian an opportunity to fulfil their dream of having a family car! It’s much more than just a product, it’s an emotion for us Indians. It’s really not a surprise seeing Alto atop this list of best-selling hatchbacks.
-
Maruti Suzuki Baleno (15,573 Units)
Maruti’s Baleno comes up second on the list, the premium hatchback managed to sell a staggering 15573 units in October 2021. The Baleno is one of the most value-for-money cars in the premium hatch segment. It offers great features, a well-established engine, and the option of an automatic(CVT). The major selling point of the Baleno is definitely its best-in-class comfort and cabin space.
-
Maruti Suzuki WagonR (12,335 Units)
India’s favorite CAB, the WagonR also finds a place on this list of best-selling hatchbacks in India. The WagonR is an extremely practical car, it offers excellent cabin space and great fuel efficiency. The fact that it comes with the option of a factory-fitted CNG is also something that helps the WagonR secure a place in this list.
-
Maruti Suzuki Swift (9,180 Units)
India’s favorite, most reliable, and most trusted hatchback, the Swift surely creeps into the top 5 of this list. This car needs no introduction, heck we don’t even need to explain why it’s up here! The Swift has been in the market for well above a decade, and it has been performing excellently ever since the beginning.
-
Hyundai Grand i10 (6,042 Units)
Finally a non-Maruti car! Hyundai’s Grand i10 is an excellent offering in the hatchback segment. It offers great features, staggering looks, and a wide range of options to choose from. An i10 buyer can choose between 3 engine options, a NA Petrol, a Turbo Petrol and a Diesel. It also gets an optional automatic gearbox(AMT). This really helps Hyundai in widening its target audience.

Tata Altroz (5,128 Units)
India’s safest hatchback, the Altroz also makes a place in this list! We really wish that it would be higher up in the ranks, after all, it is a MADE IN INDIA product. If Tata would offer an automatic gearbox with the Altroz, these numbers would have been much higher.
-
Maruti Suzuki S-Presso (4,442 Units)
This is the last Maruti on the list, promise :). The S-Presso is a great car for someone who wants a higher ground clearance on a lower budget. This is one of the major reasons why people buy it. The SUV-like stance is very sought after in the Indian market these days and the S-Presso gives that at a very affordable price point.
-
Hyundai i20 (4,414 Units)
Lastly, on this list, we find Hyundai’s premium hatchback, the i20. While the i20 has made it to the list, its sales numbers have decreased by 47% as compared to October 2020. The high-end pricing might be a reason for this huge decrease in sales, coupled with the on and off lockdowns in the last year. Needless to say, the i20 is a great car, a little pricey but great.
