Toyota is very soon planning to launch the Yaris petrol variant in BS6 (Bharat Stage 6) avatar. With the clock ticking for the official implementation of the BS6 norm in India, Toyota has decided to upgrade the Yaris to comply with BS6. The Yaris upon its launch received a mild response with auto experts praising its practicality and a decent list of features. However, Yaris wasn’t able to compete with D-segment sedan goliaths like the Honda City, Maruti Suzuki Ciaz and the Hyundai Verna.
The Toyota Yaris will retain both manual and CVT gearbox albeit with an upgraded 1.5-litre 4-cylinder petrol engine. A BS6 conversion caused most cars to drop in performance, however, the Yaris BS6 produces the same power figures of 107hp. Transmission on the BS6 Yaris continues to be a 6-speed manual and 7-step CVT (Continuously Variable Transmission).
