But apparently, it’s not entirely a bed of roses with the baby Renault. While taking a look at the capabilities of the Kwid, we decided to flip the coin and check out the shortcomings of the car as well.

Listed down below are 10 most common problems with the Renault Kwid. Let’s see what all common problems the Indian owners reported about the Kwid in the five years it has been in the country.

  1. Engine Noise (High NVH Levels)

    The first most common issue faced by Kwid owners or anyone who has ever experienced the car is the engine noise. Such characteristics are expected from a bigger car with a diesel engine. But when it comes to a car of Kwid’s proportions, it is hard to make peace with.

    The noise becomes more prominent as you begin to work that sizable engine intensively. Kwid’s motor has a lively enough punch for a car of its segment but the refinement levels aren’t setting any benchmarks for sure.

  2. Vibration and Noises

    Another aspect that the Kwid owners often complain about is the poor NVH levels of the car. Kwid’s cabin welcomes all kinds of vibrations and noises while it makes its way around the city. Customers have reported unusual noises while braking, vibrations from the engine and in some cases the entire car being rattled by a bad section of road. This is something that got to invite some negative feedback from the customers.

  3. Poor Build Quality

    It is hard to perceive the Kwid as a cheap built when it looks the way it does. The Kwid’s striking looks aren’t built upon such a strong foundation. The car’s low quality built means that it does handle collision well. We’ve read some owner reviews of the Kwid on the internet wherein they have mentioned their car incurring serious damage while colliding with a ‘battery rickshaw’.

    A sturdy built quality is a must, be it a car of any segment. It’s necessary to withstand at least minor collision which is bound to happen once you’re out there.

  4. Plastic Oil Chamber (Sump)

    A yet another concern of Kwid owners which is related to materials used to build the car. The oil chamber located down below the engine in the Kwid is made of plastic. Considering the Indian roads which can be full of surprises, having an oil chamber made of plastic doesn’t land a lot of confidence.

    Despite the Kwid having a good ground clearance, taking it over a rough section of road won’t be such a good idea. The plastic chamber would easily be prone to leakages which can lead to an unanticipated breakdown.

  5. AMT Dial issues

    The Easy-R dial switch AMT on the Renault Kwid sounds like a breeze to use. But some of the people who frequently use it have a different story to tell. The dial has only three options Drive, Reverse, and Neutral, but certain owners have reported that they need to try the switch multiple times in order to change the gear. It won’t go from N to D or R in one go or visa-versa. This kind of defeats the whole purpose of having an AMT which is being convenient to use.

  6. Faulty Accelerator Pedal

    Now we’re not sure if this problem still persists with the new Facelift BS6 Renault Kwid, but we are certain that it was prevalent in models prior to the facelift. Once you let off the foot from the accelerator, the pedal refuses to return back to its original position. This can be very distracting while you are driving, which is not safe.

  7. Sudden Loss of power

    Another issue prevalent in the pre-facelift Kwid is that the car experiences an abrupt stall while it on the move, irrespective of the speed it is moving on. This can really catch you off guard while driving and leave you wondering as to what exactly happened.

  8. Loss of Power (With the AC on)

    This issue has been reported by a handful of Kwid owners. While driving in start/stop traffic with the AC on, as you come to a complete halt and try to get back up and running, there is almost zero response from the accelerator. Despite depressing the accelerator pedal more than halfway, the response from the input is very weak and it needs some time to get back to its senses.

    This is something that can turn out to be very embarrassing while the traffic behind you on the road begins to honk right at you.

  9. Single Wiper for the windshield

    The Kwid also has a single wiper instead of the usual two for the front windshield. This means that a significant portion of the screen is left inaccessible. This can be very annoying especially during the monsoon season, affecting visibility. However, we realise that Renault has done so to keep the overall cost of the car down.

  10. Rear Windows do not roll down completely

    The rear wheel arch of the Kwid is designed as such that a proper square shape of the rear door is compromised. Hence, there isn’t much room in the doors for the windows to roll down completely. This hinders in making the cabin a bit airier.

  1. Thats why Maruti is always better. Kwid is nowhere in front of S-PRESSO, in all respect. Am using S-PRESSO last 8 months and am extremely happy with it, confortwise and performance wise. It’s a mini SUV you can say. Both front and rear seats are elevated and most comfortable. You will you are sitting in a really talker vehicle. The view especially on highways is excellent. The mileage is good. Pick up? It’s a Tiger on highways and gets instant pickup all the time. Pick up strength doesn’t go down even with A/C ‘ON’. It’s almost equal to Brezza or equivalent. Even at high speed of 100 plus kms, there is no vibration at all. Gear shifting is very smooth. Suspension is excellent. You can confidently take S-PRESSO to ride on any kind of roads.

  2. I am using kwid amt since 1 year. I have a swift
    and a merc GLA as well. Except for the engine noise, poor built quality and plastic fuel tank rest all problems were not felt any time.
    Infact the i felt better ride quality and low cabin noise are the highlights of this car when compared with its peers.

    Its a worth car for its price

  3. Yes exactly my point. Other than poor built quality I have not felt any such problems in my Kwid AMT too. Have been using for more than one year

  4. Kwid is a very good car – have been using it for 4 years – Ride quality is better than Swift …Havent faced any of these issues .

  5. Kiwd’s looking desgine is very good but e-spersso looking desgine like dabba. If it have more attractive it compatible with kwid.

  6. I will say do not Buy any of the Kwid Model , extremely Poor Quality in Silencer , Accelerator Pedal I had purchase the model and now it 4 year of Purchase and found that serious concern in Model , they should developed good Quality Product .

  7. After reading all the reviews about the Kwid…. it’s a question mark for me, whether to buy or not… but i love the way they designed… on 24th sep visited showroom, i fell in love with the kwid climber…I’m looking forward for the best suggestion in that budget

  10. Is there any way to protect or guard the plastic fuel tank? I just ordered one kwid. I hope it will be good one. Please some more review from kwid riders can help me.

      There is no specific guard to protect the fuel tank from Renault and it’s accessories. But if you find one in the aftermarket, it will surely add some protection. And something is always better than nothing. Stay Pinned! 🙂

    2. Within 3-6 lakhs (on road price)
    After a marathon analysis, I am thinking for KWID 1.0 liter car.
    My partner (Wife) dislikes “MARUTI CARS” AND HUNDAI.
    WHY ! I DONT KNOW?
    PL GUIDE ME TO FINALIZE a pretty and small car having enough power for bad hill conditions roads too

      You can surely go for the Renault Kwid Neotech edition as it will come in your budget and also has a good ground clearance. And if by any chance, your wife will allow you to buy a Tata car, you can also go for the Tata Tiago.

  12. I am using kwid since 5 yars, I am facing problem with engine noise, loss of power when a/C working and HIGH coat maintenance.
