We all are aware of the fact that all the carmakers here in India have a special Research and Development department. And also this department designs and manufacturers vehicle’s prototypes. Later these vehicles, are optimized for everyday road use. Well, all the cars running on the road are good in some sense or the other. But there are cars that are well-engineered and offer a lot more than their competition. So, here are 10 such cars that stand out from the crowd.
Please note that the list of well-engineered cars in India is not (and never will be) limited to these 10 cars. Let us know in the comments section below your opinion and your favourite cars. Lets go!
Mahindra XUV300 | Unique features & vehicle safety
It’s been more than a couple of years with Mahindra XUV300 is there in its company’s portfolio. But it still exists here for a reason. To begin with, the XUV300 is based on the Sangyyong Tivoli which in itself is a potent vehicle. That said, Mahindra gave the SUV subtle changes to suit India.
But in that process, the engineers never compromised with the vehicle. XUV300 gets a potent and powerful engine with both automatic as well as a manual gearbox. Also, it is the safest “Made in India” car. With all these qualities intact, the engineers never compromised on features as it comes with a few first in segment gizmos.
Nissan Magnite: Perfect Value for money
It’s a miss conception that if a car is cheap it is not well-engineered or there are a ton of compromises. But the Nissan Magnite is the subcompact SUV that negates both the above points. If you don’t know Nissan shook the automotive market last year when they launched the Magnite.
This is because this SUV offers a lot more than what you are paying for. Starting with features, it gets all the latest tech like wireless charger, air purifier and some are first in segment example, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Additionally, the car also boasts of a first in class 360-degree camera. Neither they (Nissan) compromised on the powertrain.
Renault Duster AWD: Comparable with high-end 4X4 cars
Duster was once a segment leader boasting of high sales numbers. But because of lack of updates, Duster slowly lost its charm. But keeping that aside, Duster in itself is a reliable and masterpiece. If taken care this SUV can last more than 1.5 lakh kilometres without breaking a sweat. This also had to do with the perfect suspension setup.
Also, it’s a small thing but worth mentioning, that Renault Duster is the only car that comes with hydraulic hood (bonnet) struts. Next coming to the interesting stuff, Duster’s powertrain and drivetrain. Just before the BS6 norms, Duster came with an AWD drivetrain. This gave the car go-anywhere characteristic. Also, it was among the cheapest cars with an AWD drivetrain that you could buy.
Toyota Fortuner: reliable and versatile
Next car on the list the mighty Toyota Fortuner. This SUV does not need any introduction at all. Its name speaks for itself. Toyota Fortuner has been one of the best selling premium full-sized SUVs in India. Why you may ask? The main reason is that the Fortuner comes with a super-duper reliable engine.
Not just that even the after service costs are on the lower side when compared to its rivals. Another reason, the Toyota Fortuner is here is that the SUV gets a powerful engine that is capable of some serious off-roading. Provided he/she is an experienced driver. And yes, Toyota Fortuner still comes with a 4X4 drivetrain.
Volkswagen T-Roc: Overall a perfect package

Here in India, T-Roc comes through a homologation route where the cars are assembled in Europe and are imported in Bulk to India.
Well, Volkswagen has recently launched the 2021 T-Roc with a slight price hike. That said, this vehicle is built to last, as it offers everything that its buyer would require. This includes robust built quality, no compromise on the feature list and a powerful engine. Not to forget, T-Roc comes with a 7-speed DSG gearbox.

But after the BS6, as Maruti ditched the diesel, now this feature is a part of the K15B engine which is a 1.5-litre petrol engine. Apart from that, the ride quality offered by the Maruti Suzuki Ciaz is plush and among the best in the market.

But stepping into 2020 Nissan updated the Kicks with a powerful 1.3-litre turbo petrol engine. Well, this is the worlds most powerful 1.3-litre engine.
Speaking of numbers, it pushes max power of about 156bhp whereas produces a maximum power of about 254Nm. These are some serious numbers. Because of this engine, the car feels energetic and the hard overtake is just a tap away. Nissan says they’ve used some of the technology from the GTR engine.
