Giant carmakers across the globe tune and customize their cars specifically for the market they want to sell that car in. Breaking this down a little, a car that is sold in India may or may not be the same as the one sold in the international market. Hence, depending upon the market, the company could change or modify many things including, the powertrain and drivetrain. With that out of way, today we’ll compare the engine performance of the cars that are available here in India with the ones sold overseas. (like the market in the USA).

Hyundai Venue
When it comes to the engine options, Hyundai Venue currently selling in the US market is a lot different from the one here in India. Venue in the USA comes with a 1.6-litre naturally aspirated motor. This motor has a max power output of 121hp and 153Nm of peak torque.
Engine Specs

This engine is capable of generating 118hp of max power and about 172Nm of peak torque.
-
Kia Seltos
One of the cars sold in markets like Australia and the USA that is extremely powerful when compared to the one sold here in India is Kia Seltos. Kia Seltos in the international market is not only powerful but also safe.
Engine Specs
Engine 1.6-Litre Turbo Petrol 1.4-Litre Turbo Petrol Power 175hp 138hp @ 6,000 rpm Torque 260Nm 242Nm @1500 Keeping that aside, Kia Seltos overseas comes with a 1.6-litre turbo petrol engine. This motor generates a whopping 175hp of max power and 260Nm of peak torque. Whereas the one here in India gets a 1.4-litre turbo petrol engine generating 138hp of max power. And the maximum torque output sits at 242Nm.
-
Suzuki S-Cross
The Euro-Spec Suzuki S-Cross or SX4 S-Cross is among those cars we wish the company should introduce here in India. Why you may ask? Firstly, S-Cross in the European market comes with a power 1.4-litre turbo petrol engine with mild-hybrid as an option. Not just that, the crossover also gets an AWD (All-Grip) drivetrain. The 1.4-litre engine generates 129ps of max power and 235Nm of peak torque.
Engine Specs
Engine 1.4 Litre Turbo petrol (All-Grip) 1.5 litre naturally aspirated petrol Power 129ps @ 5,500rpm 105ps @ 6,000 rpm Torque 235Nm @ 2,000-3,000rpm 138 Nm @4,400 rpm Though a while back S-Cross came with the euro spec 1.6-litre turbo diesel but it is a thing of the past. Now, after BS6 ruling over, S-Cross comes with a 1.5-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine. The engine generates 105ps of max power and 138Nm of peak torque.
-
Suzuki Ignis
Just like the S-cross Ignis too comes with some mouth-watering specs in the European markets. Suzuki Ignis comes with the same 1.2-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine and produced identical power as the one in India. But the difference is that the Ignis in Europe boasts of an AWD or All-Grip system.
Engine Specs
Engine 1.2 Litre NA Petrol (All-Grip) 1.2 Litre NA petrol Power 83ps @ 6,000rpm 83ps @ 6,000 rpm Torque 107Nm @ 2,800rpm 113 Nm @4,200 rpm Keeping this said, the motor generated a max power of 83ps and 107Nm of peak torque. Nevertheless, Maruti Suzuki Ignis here in India also comes with the same engine but sits in a different tune. This one generates max power of 83ps but the torque output sits a little higher at 113Nm.
-
Suzuki Swift
Seems like almost all the gem cars from Suzuki are sold in the market overseas. Next on this list comes Suzuki Swift. When comparing Suzuki Swift with Maruti Suzuki Swift the power difference is huge. Before getting into the specs, Suzuki Swift comes with a 1.4-litre turbo petrol engine in Europe.
Engine Specs
Engine 1.4-Litre Turbo Petrol 1.2 Litre NA petrol Power 129ps @ 5,500rpm 89ps @ 6,000 rpm Torque 235Nm @ 2,000-3,000rpm 113 Nm @4,400 rpm Moving on, this motor generates 129ps of max power and 235Nm of peak torque. Coupled with a 6 speed MT gearbox, this hatchback surely takes the power to weight ratio to a completely new level. Now, the one in India comes with a 1.2 litre naturally aspirated petrol engine. And this engine is healthy enough to generate 89ps of max power and 113Nm of peak torque.

Toyota Yaris
The current generation international Toyota Yaris is way different from the latest gen Yaris in India. Speaking of which, Toyota Yaris is also used as a rally car hence, the international spec Yaris is different. One of the main visible difference is that the one in India is a sedan but the other one is a hatchback and also gets an AWD drivetrain as an option.
Engine Specs
Engine 1.5-litre NA petrol 1.5 litre NA petrol Power 106hp @ 6,000rpm 106 @ 6,000 rpm Torque 140Nm @ 4,000 140 Nm @4,200 rpm But being a Toyota there are a couple of similarities, like a 1.5 litre naturally aspirated engine. Both the cars share a similar engine with identical power and torque figures. This engine generates a max power of 106hp and a peak torque of 140Nm.
-
Ford Ecosport
There are multiple cars to get a completely different drivetrain and powertrain, Ford Ecosport is among them. Well, the subcompact SUV Ecosport gets an AWD drivetrain in the international market. Moving on, Ecosport in the USA comes with a 1.0-litre turbo petrol engine that generates 123hp of max power and 173Nm of peak torque.
Engine Specs

Now, it is a 1.5-litre 3 cylinder naturally aspirated petrol engine that powers the Ford Ecosport in India. The motor generates a max power of 121hp of max power and 149Nm of peak torque. And no, AWD is not available in India.

Renault Duster
The car that kickstarted the compact SUV segment here in India is the Renault Duster. This SUV was known to offer a really fine overall package. But with time, the car lost its charm because Renault forgot to update it. Hence the one in the international market became more advanced and offered a lot more. One of these aspects is the engine until now. In the European market, Duster comes with two engine options, a diesel and a petrol engine.
Engine Specs
Engine 1.3-litre turbo petrol 1.3-litre turbo petrol Power 150hp @ 5,250rpm 154hp @ 5,500 rpm Torque 250Nm @ 1,700rpm 254Nm @1,600 rpm And the USP of the diesel is that it also comes with an AWD drivetrain. On the other side, the Duster in Europe and the one in India comes with a similar 1.3-litre turbo petrol engine. Both the engines sit in a similar state of tune and generate really identical power. Well, the one in India generates 154hp and the euro spec is capable of generating 150hp.

Whereas the one in PHEV has a 1.5-litre engine that runs on Atkinson’s cycle. Paired with a motor the total output stands at 107hp and 253Nm of peak torque.

Volkswagen Polo
Rarely there are cars in the Indian market that survive with little no or updates, Volkswagen Polo is a perfect example. But in the recent update, the Polo got a brand new 1.0-litre turbo petrol engine. Guess what, this is the same engine that powers the new generation Volkswagen polo in the European markets but with a different state of tune.
Engine Specs
Engine 1.0-litre turbo petrol 1.0-litre turbo petrol Power 115ps @ 5,000-5,500rpm 109hp @ 5,000 rpm Torque 200Nm @ 2,000-3,5000rpm 175Nm @ 1,700 rpm Talking about the technical bit, the 1.0-litre 3 cylinder engine generates 110ps of max power and 175Nm of peak torque.
